54. Albert Grant

Two years ago Albert had his leg crushed in an accident when a cow squashed against a fence. As a result he suffered compartment syndrome in his leg which required surgery. Even though the operation was successful, he still suffered an enormous amount of excruciating pain which made everyday ordinary things very difficult for him.

Through his strong commitment and enormous support from family, friends and staff, he gradually overcame this adversity. This year, Albert became the 14 year old Swimming Champion for the Faction Carnival, won his division at the Interschool Swimming Carnival and the Moore Districts Carnival at Challenge Stadium, as well as representing Gingin District High School in the Interschool Cross Country, and can be seen regularly on the school oval with a soccer ball at his feet. This has all been achieved by someone who only two years ago could barely walk.
