New Zealand 21 September: Kaikoura – Picton

Team D

Our day started at sunrise on Kaikoura Beach after a nice stay at the Kaikoura Top 10 Holiday Park and Aldan Lodge Motel.

The sun was rising out of the of the ocean and a perfect half moon hung illuminating the snow-capped mountains. Truly breathtaking!

Our team then proceeded to run our 90 km north along a beautiful, wild, untouched coastline on our right and majestic mountains on our left.

Two cyclists from Germany, Angelika and Stefan, who are touring the South Island, met us at a spectacularly sculpted rock, alive with seals and shags. Our paths crossed many times throughout the day as we all battled strong headwinds on our respective journeys.

The team converged on Picton where we were invited to a special dinner with the SGI Buddhist Group of Picton. We enjoyed an evening, sharing our common goals of harmony, peace and international friendship.
