USA 8 May: Point Mugu, CA - Goleta, CA

We started our run just next to Lake Casitas. Being out in the country was a nice contrast and break from the busy coastal highways. The section we ran was very hilly and steep in some places with a lot of sharp turns. The runners had to be careful of the traffic because the roads were so narrow.

We ran through the foothills of Santa Barbara along beautiful highway 192. There were so many nurseries with plants and fragrant flowers and as we got closer to town many expensive houses with very fancy landscaping. The sun was warm but not scorching.

The wildfires burning in the distance were in view and we eventually had to take a detour because of closed roads. Sadly these fires have caused lots of damage and even some deaths. Sections of Santa Barbara had to be evacuated. We didn't notice any ash in the air or smoke so we were able to run our whole section, albeit with an unlit torch.

Adhiratha runs 10 miles cheerfully.

One of our runners was having back problems so he couldn't run, just one mile. Two of us ran about 10 miles and the other runner, a handful.

As we approached the ocean and downtown Santa Barbara we were welcomed by a very beautiful scene. Everything is very clean and well manicured with many nice shops and restaurants. We ran down the main strip called State street, ending our run on the other side of downtown.

Thank you Chris and Pizza Guru for the delicious pizzas, they were perfecto!
