Iceland 16 July: Hvammstangi - Mjóifjörður

Now we are headed for the Westfjords.

Við héldum til Vestfjarða.

A stormy start for a long running day!

Það var þungbúin og hvöss byrjun á löngum hlaupadegi!

A cold north-wind was blowing quite hard as we started our approach to the West - Fjordes. Gangane was wearing his monkey feet shoes.

Sterkur Norðan-vindur blés mikið þegar við hlupum frá Hvammstanga til Hólmavíkur. Gangane var í Górillu skónum sínum.

...endless kilometres through a lonely, but most beautiful countryside....

...endalaus er leiðin gegnum einmanalega en fallega náttúru...

...we met nice American tourists from Boston....
...við hittum ferðamenn frá Boston...

...logs from Siberia....
...rekaviður, líklega frá Síberíu...

By noon the sky turned blue and all the clouds were gone. The hills were still there though.

... um hádegisbilið er við nálguðumst Hólmavík þá kom loks sólin fram en brekkurnar voru enn til staðar

At Tröllatunga we met Birkir Þór Stefánsson the farmer from Tröllatunga and an avid runner. He joined us for 15km as he was participating in an 40km trail race in a few days.

Birkir, a local farmer and his fellow farmer friend Rósmundur Númason, joined us for 15 and 10 kilometres respectively.

...together we ran into Hólmavík and a small, but hearty meeting took place.....

Birkir bóndi og vinur hans og bónda og hlaupavinur Rósmundur Númason hlupu með okkur 15 og 10km. Saman hlupum við inn á Hólmavík þar sem fámennur en góður fundur átti sér stað.

Birkir's daughter Árný.

Dóttir Birkis hún Árný.

Sigríður, Birkir's wife, who is an accomplished javelin athlete and their son Stefán also held the torch.

Sigríður, kona Birkis sem að er mikill spjótkastari heldur hér á kyndlinum ásamt syni þeirra Stefáni.

After endless kilometres we finally reached Ísafjardardjúp - a series of many fjords.

Eftir langa en fallega leið þá náðum við loks í Ísafjarðardjúpið.

...our accommodation for the evening.
...við gistum síðan í mjóafirði yfir nóttina.

The World Harmony Run proudly supports the International Year of Youth (IYY) and the International Year of Forests (IYF) proclaimed by the United Nations General Assembly.

See the recent Youtube video on African experience which illustrates IYY slogan "Our Year Our Voice"  International Year of Youth - Zambia World Harmony. They surprisingly mention Presidents and UN Secretary-General in a unique way!
