USA 30 May: Austin

We have not even started yet and we are already lost!.

(left to right) Gordon, Aklilu, Jalal and Cheryl.

Gordon, recognized as the fastest in his age category in Austin,

keeps pace with Zerihun, an Olympic class runner from Ethiopia who was

a key player in the 2005 Ethiopian World Harmony Run 3 day, 375 km

relay.

Daulot, visiting from Seattle, braves the Texas sun as he begins

the long North leg of the run.

Genevee (holding the torch) joins the team and runs a few miles

while inviting others to come join.

Sherriff’s Deputy Chandler stops to hold the torch with Aklilu

and promises to come run with us the last few miles.

Aklilu comes up the hills of highway 360 greeted by the Texas

wildflowers growing alongside the road.

Dorothy and Eve come to run a few miles with the team. About this

time Jalal also realizes just how hot the highway can get after a mile

or two barefoot.

Dorothy and Aklilu run with the torch with smiles that match the

brightness of the Texas sun.

Daulot and Zerihun crossed the Famous Highway 360 bridge in West Austin.

Many cyclists training on 360 slow down to talk with Aklilu and

Zerihun including Orlando (pictured), who might bring his running

shoes next year.

Rick and Barrett join the team to bring us up to 7 people.

Barrett flies along the as he completes the East leg of the run.

Jim (with torch) and Jalal power up the hills as they head South

down the East side of Austin.

Barrett makes friends with a local who carries the torch for a

few yards for world harmony.

A group shot holding the torch as the team gets ready to do the

final mile of the run.

Aklilu talks about the purpose of the World Harmony Run and

what it means to us for so many wonderful people to come out and join

in with the run this year.

Group picture a the end. From left to right: Barrett, Dorothy,

Aklilu, Deputy Chandler, Daulot, John, Rick, Eve, Jalal.

Many thanks to all that came and participated!
