Recreation Centers - Summer Camps - Advance Visits

Representatives of the World Harmony Run in New York have begun to visit 24 Recreation Centers and Summer Camps in the 5 boroughs of NYC. These visits are in advance of the big event in Flushing Meadow- Corona Park on 19th August. The run around the USA will be returning to NY for the day's events.

Below are the beginning report and photos of 20 Jul 2010 TEAM B

(see also more images ) in gallery;  Additional Photos and more full reports will be posted here in due course;  Links to city recreation center and Camps are at end

In each location one of the runners gives a short introduction. If the video equipment is available we show a short DVD video (around 6 minutes) that has been very well received.. We then have a very good discussion which includes:

* About the run: How it began; Who was the founder

* The countries the runners present on the day were originally from;  How we can all feel peace and harmony

* The International year 2010; What Languages and symbol are on the Banner for 2010.

* Singing the Harmony Run song;  Becoming a member of the World Harmony Run.

* Some of the other places the run is going and has been;  Famous people who have held the torch.

* What can be done by each recreation center or camp before 19th August; What individual campers can do.

* Upcoming event on Aug 19th in Flushing Meadow Corona Park;  and other items the Individual Camp Counselors want to cover

For the Counselors we also share:

* Tip sheet on how to Prepare Campers for World Harmony Run event at the end of summer.  * Information on Living in Harmony Curriculum adapted for Summer Camps

Below are some brief comments and photos from this days events - TEAM B

============================================================

20 July TEAM B - * Kissena Park, Queens

Our team made a presentation

And enjoyed very much the active participation of the campers here.

There was a spirited run with the torch

This had to be one of the nicest settings we had seen for the NYC Recreation Center Summer camps

Different people were able to carry the torch. Some took to the process very naturally.

Here we have one of th counsellors leading by example.

Carrying the torch...

Reaching up to touch it together

and posiing with the banner

There were many smiles and

Peace signs in evidence.

We are looking forward to seeing many smiles again on August 19th at Flushing Meadows Corona Park.

Jul 20 TEAM B * Cunningham Park, Queens

The team was geting ready before the event

A few Practice rounds of the Harmnoy Run Theme song before - always helps set the stage.

Arpan was on hand to give a musical to the runers leading the harmony train around the park

Then the run began

Many vitisting runner from around the world when they are visiting NY for the big Harmony Run International Ceremonies in April or August

often run in and appreciate Queens parks like Kissena, Cunningham and Alley Pond.

The connecting trail between Cunningham and Alley Pond is a big favorite onthe old motor parkway...

Others follow the green trail markers al the way to Flushing Meadow Corona Park to get in a longer run especially if training for a Marathon. Many are the times when these runners offer sincere gratitude to the parks for having their facilites open even in winter for the much needed breaks and water )

Today we had time to make sure every camper was able to hold the torch

and make their own wish, hope or prayer for harmnoy and peace while holding the torch.

Some shots are below. See more in the gallery..

Then we shared

holding the torch together

and coming behind

the 2010 World Harmony Run Banner

Which also has the Symbol for the United Nations and UNESCO declared

"International Year for the Rapprochement of Cultures". This year celebrates cultural diversity and the coming together of different peoples, religions etc. It also honors all the various strands of humanity that make up the healthy interaction of society.

The words in 6 Languages with a multicolor logo - is especially appropiate for Queens which is said to have the most ethnic, linguistic and cultural distribution of any place in the world

As we blow out the torch on this day - we have the memories of the the experience and the photos to remind us of the big Youth and Harmony Event coming up on 19th of August in Flushing Meadows and Corona parks.

We look forward to seeing many of the campers ther to help us light and carry the torch for all the days events..

Thank you for yor participation - You make it he World Harmony Run
