Canada 17 May: Napanee, Ontario

Napanee, Ontario

On Thursday, May 17, the World Harmony Run team was greeted with applause, a song and a giant banner at J.J. O'Neill Catholic School in Napanee, Ontario.

Teacher Cathy Culhane had organized a full program with the students, who were gathered in the gym for the Torch celebration.

After an excellently sung rendition of "We can make a difference," one of the senior students formally welcomed the runners. The team members introduced themselves, spoke briefly about the goals of the Run, taught everyone the WHR theme song, and showed a DVD of the WHR.

It was particularly inspiring when one person from each class came forward to prayerfully read their intention for peace and harmony.

Next on the agenda was a circuit with teachers and selected students through the neighbourhood, carrying the Torch along the same route that the school had followed during the Terry Fox tribute run.

The students returned to school just in time for recess and the WHR team had fun playing basketball and talking individually to some of the children.

Video Mesage from Davidson Hepburn, President (2009 - 2011) of the General Conference of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) for 25th Anniversary of the World Harmony Run and a vision for the decade: "Toward a Oneness-World". With FRENCH subtitles.
