Canada 20 May: Smiths Falls - Ottawa

Sunday, May 20th started off bright and hot in Smiths Falls.

Is this Sanchita or Maria Kutschera? "The hills are alive... with the sound of music... "

Relaying up Hwy 15 to Ashton was great, a lot of cyclists and friendly motorists waved and gave a friendly honk as they passed the Torch runners.

Professor St-Amand of the University of Ottawa carried the Torch for a 7 km stretch with Ultra-distance running champion Sarvagata of the Ukraine.

Special events coordinator for the World Harmony Run, Sanchita Fleming took some time out this weekend and logged 5 km along the quiet roads of Ashton, ON.

Ashton's General Store is an ice cream hub!

We ran a few beautiful rolling hills into Stittsville where we met a few more World Harmony Lovers.

Mandy Barwell-Parker, triathlete from the Kanata Running Club, ran the Torch for the next 11.5 km. She is a great runner - managing a fast pace in the scorching heat... being inspired by champion runner Paula Radcliffe could be part of the reason for her speed and great running form.

Eva Onufrak, also from the Kanata Running Club, is getting back into great running form. She ran the Torch for the next 7km into Ottawa's Westboro neighbourhood.

We arrived at Parliament Hill for a small gathering to close our weekend relay run. Thanks to Bag Pipper Alex for the great musical accompaniment. May 31 the World Harmony Run will do a relay visiting many of Ottawa's Embassy offices - a symbolic "global tour" with the Torch.

The Run is off to Montreal and Northern Quebec over the next week - follow events on "live from the road".

Video Mesage from Davidson Hepburn, President (2009 - 2011) of the General Conference of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) for 25th Anniversary of the World Harmony Run and a vision for the decade: "Toward a Oneness-World". With FRENCH subtitles.
