New Zealand 8 March: New Plymouth - Hawera

A very big thank you to the Oakura Beach Holiday Park and the Copthorne Hotel, New Plymouth for their generous support in accommodating the World Harmony Run runners.

Oakura Beach Holiday Park  http://www.oakurabeach.com/

Copthorne Hotel Grand Central New Plymouth

42 Powderham Street, New Plymouth

We are all most grateful for your kindness!

Oakura Beach, New Plymouth.  We all had a wonderful swim after our day of running. We also saw a pod of five Orca whales in the morning just off the beach, what a thrill for all of us!

Mt Taranaki

The teams split up for the first two schools withone team at Oakura Primary and the other at Woodleigh School.

Woodleigh school studentsmeet us at the top of the road and ran in with us, the rest of the school was liningthe way into the hall.

We talked to the children about the World Harmomy Run.

We had a surprise Torch-Bearer Award for Barry Marsh - someone who throughout his whole life always tried to be of service to the community, starting with fund raising over $1.5 million dollars to bring the first CT scanner to New Plymouth. From this experience he was then able to help plan and fund raise to expand the Karawara baths to give New Plymouth and all season indoor pool facility.  Over 15 years ago he had plans drawn up for the expansion of the waterfront, now that reality is a beautiful addition to New Plymouth.

Now in his 70’s he has only just retired from the Regional Council, and has started to work on establishing a Men’s Shed in the Taranaki region.  A place for retired men to go and use their skills they have required over their life time to be of service to the community.  With the understanding that good health is based on many factors including feeling good about yourself, being productive and valuable to your community, connecting to friends and maintaining an active body and an active mind.

Everyone made a wish for world harmony from their heart!

We then we ran around the field with the students.

Many children holding the World Harmony Run Torch.

The team took a scenic detour that lead them through
rural Taranaki before meeting up with the rest of the team in Inglewood.

Running to Oakura school...

Running into Oakura School with the chosen speedsters.

They welcomed us with a beautiful Maori song.

After running through to Inglewood we arrived at Inglewood Primary.

Sharing harmony with Inglewood Primary School.

Putting music to action. Thanks to Inglewood for sharing the joy!

Student leaders are great examples of harmony!

The joy of running with the students!

The World Harmony Run arrives in Stratford!

The Stratford School kids were eager to interact with us about what harmony means to them. Thanks Stratford!

This girl is called “Harmony”!

"Don't suffer from laziness" as the T-shirt states. This girl doesn't!
