Iceland 17 July: Fagurhólsmýri - Höfn í Hornafirði

Last night, four dynamic ladies joined the Harmony Run Team, and at 9 am this morning, they started the run.

The route started at Hnappastadir and we ran through beautiful countryside; mountains in every direction and Vatnajökull, Europe's largest glacier, in the north.

Our first stop of he day was at Jökulsárlón, which is a glacial lagoon. Hjörleifur invited the runners on a boat ride on the lagoon, which turned out to be an extremely entertaining event, especially for our international runners.

After this good rest, it was hard to get the run going again. This was not due to runners' lack of willingness or unkind weather. On the contrary, it was one of the Harmony Run cars that simply wouldn't start. Again Hjörleifur came to our rescue and helped us start the car. He was truly the man of the day.

The Run continued through Suðursveit county and passed the spectacular Þórbergur centre, a centre dedicated to the Icelandic writer Þórbergur Þórðarson.

We had planned to finish today's run at Hornarfjarðarfljót river, but as we got there an unexpected group of soccer girls from Sports Club Sindri showed up and ran all the way to the town of Höfn í Hornafirði, a distance of about 20 km.

The names of these girls are: Guðlaug Margrét Björnsdóttir, Þórdís Imsland, Bjarney Jóna Unnsteinsdóttir, Roslín Alma Valdemarsdóttir, Karitas Björt Óskarsdóttir, Brynja Rut Borgarsdóttir, Bríet Bragadóttir, Kristjana Hafdal Þorvarðardóttir, Árdís Drífa Birgisdóttir, Lára Björg Friðriksdóttir, Brynja Baldursdóttir, Þórgunnur Torfadóttir and Iðunn Tara Ásgrímsdóttir.

Distance: 113km
