Iceland 18 July: Höfn í Hornafirði - Djúpivogur

Our first task of the day was to hand the torch over to the kids from Youth Sports Club Máni. This was a group of fun-loving kids of all ages who live in the Nesin, the area around Höfn í Hornafirði town. These kids ran a total of 15 km and their names are: Fjóla D. Hjaltadóttir, Anika Seidler, Sigurborg Eiríksdóttir, Oddleifur Eiríksson, Ásta Steinunn Eiríksdóttir, Egill Eiríksson and Gísli Jónsson . They were escorted by Hjalti Egilsson, Elín Oddleifsdóttir and Sigurður Sigurbergsson and we would like to thank all of them for their participation.

We had told the kids not to run through the Almannaskarð canyon tunnel for their own safety. The kids, however, were not to be deterred and, as they wanted to keep going, they simply ran through the tunnel and had a wonderful time, as it is not every day that one runs through such spectacular tunnels. And it turned out that there was no need for worry as the traffic was next to none this quiet Tuesday morning.

The sister and brother Sigurborg Eiríksdóttir (6 years old) and Oddleifur Eiríksson (5 years old) ran with the torch aided by Hjalti Egilsson. The siblings, who are among the absolutely youngest Harmony Runners, obviously enjoyed themselves and ran quite far.

Elmar Dietz from Germany running with the torch

The brothers Rainer and Elmar Dietz are here pictured together with Andrés Ramón. The brothers each ran 1 km and said they would have loved to run farther had they not been pressed by time. They were overjoyed to receive their Harmony Run certificates. It should also be mentioned that both the brothers are experienced marathon runners.

Vinodini, World Harmony Runner from England, shortly before reaching Djúpivogur town. Vinodini was happy with the weather on this sixth day of the Icelandic World Harmony Run.

This smiling couple from France were very interested in the World Harmony Run after having stopped their car to inquire to the nature of our activity. We were not able to persuade them to run, although they praised the runners for their undertaking.

Viktoría and Dariya prepared a delicious dinner for the World Harmony Runners at the kindergarten in Djúpivogur were the team spent the night. This is food that never fails!

We had a little bit of rain today, but always the spirit of the World Harmony Run shone through.
