Iceland 19 July: Djúpivogur - Stöðvarfjörður

We began running early as usual, the girls setting off from Djúpivogur, while the boys rested a while longer. We were unexpectedly aided by the sheep in the area, which ran with us for quite a while.

As we came closer to Breiðdalsvík, a team of kids from Youth Sports Club Hrafnkell Freysgoði met us and ran energetically despite the wind and rain. The kids must have run at least 10km, despite their young age. They even managed to inspire Andrés and Davíð to run with them!

The names of these kids are:

Berglind Rós Jónasdóttir and Lilja Björk Jónasdóttir, Rannveig Steinberg Róbertsdóttir, Iða Hrund Hauksdóttir, Ísar Svan Gautarsson, Eyþór Ingólfsson, Hrefna Ingólfsdóttir Melsteð and, finally, a young girl who wished to be called only Silvía the fair.

We also met young people from the Worldwide Friends organization, who were eager to run with the torch. They are:

André Goedhart from the Netherlands, Orid Rosello from Barcelona, Núría Gabernet also from Barcelona, Ida Erling from Finnlandi, Jade Watkins from Wales, Mirza Jajo from Sweden/Bosnia and Jake Maxwell from England.

Shortly thereafter we met kids from the Youth Sports Club Súlan. These kids ran from the start of Stöðvarfjörður fiord to the Stöðvarfjörður town - a distance of half an hour or so. These were energetic and fun-loving kids who beamed with smiles after they had finished running.

The names of these runners are:

Guðmundur Hreinsson, Kristinn Örn Magnússon, Jórunn Dagbjört Jónsdóttir, Sólmundur Aron Björgólfsson and Lorenz Elvar Sighvatsson.

Jóhanna Halldórsdóttir organized the group.

Distance: 81km
