Italy 21 April: Potenza - Battipaglie

Today we woke up after last night's late arrival in the city of Potenza. Our real wake-up after two weeks' break was a visit in Poggio tre Galli primary school.

The children we meet are always an infinite refreshment, even more so when they prepare performances about world harmony.

Having the city representative for education at our first school meeting during the morning gave us the pleasant feeling of being a very special event in the eyes of the municipality.

It is sometime hard to show in the pictures the people that help us organize, because they don't run with us most of a time. We would like to give thanks to all the local contacts that took spent their time and energy to make our run possible.

For the first time in our journey we had the chance to shake hands with the local assesori for peace who offered us this peace flag.

At the primary school A.Grippo we had a reception with the European anthem performed in a very special way.

In the forest of flags this young world harmony runner could hardly hold the torch alone but during the symbolic run when we placed all the continents we had on the playground, he was certainly not the last.

Because of his largest smile we decided to take with us on our journey this eternal kid.

The quick succession of hills going endlessly up and down composed our waking-up exercise this morning, but the enthusiasm of the local Podastico runners association definitely pushed us to climb and reach the perched meetings.

Unfortunately this joyful company left us to our journey just before lunch. Time for the first nap of the day after the long drive we had yesterday.

The new team welcomed the fresh new runners like Nataliya who happens to be our official ultra runner of the group.

Italy revealed to us its most interesting landscape and architecture as an encouragement for our efforts.

As most of us came from the north of Europe we were happy to enjoy the hot temperature as well as the delicate fragrance of the flowers along the Italian roads.

During the afternoon we met other local runner clubs who ran with us to the town of Eboli.

These 50 years old runners, as they themselves loved to repeat, pulled us into their intense but cheerful run, being themselves ultra distance runners in local events. They were a very enjoyable company.

The list of the people that get in contact with the torch definitely includes a large proportion of surprises, let us remember that the last marriage we met was in the last city of Morocco and it was almost as joyful as this one.

Italy, country of the most subtle tastes revealed to us another less known but essential phenomenon, the 1,5 meter pizza.
