Italy 17 June: Este - Carpi

We spent the night in the middle of a national park - what silence in the morning! The only sounds were those of birds singing!

The sun was already blazing down when we started our 145 kilometre Run. As we had only a few meetings scheduled, we could focus on the long-distance running.

We spent 4 hours on the road running as fast as we could, sometimes even with 4 torches moving simultaneously. In this way, we avoided the hot, midday sun and took a short lunch break before our first meeting in Mantova.

The reception took place in front of a castle. The city representative and some media personnel met us there and we were given nice refreshments!

Marco from Italy ran a lot today, almost a marathon - a great achievement in this heat! He took a well-deserved rest in the car...

The last meeting in Carpi made our day; an impressive group of runners met us 7 kilometres out of Carpi and ran with us all the way into the old city.

We reached the main square, one of the largest in Europe, where lots of people waited for us in the stands. A city representative and the group leader welcomed us on a stage, and after the presentation we passed the torch around!

After the reception, a professional mountain-biker took the torch and performed some quite amazing stunts on his bike.

We had a special dinner set up for us - in the middle of the square! A waiter served us from one of the nearby restaurants. The highlight was definitely a combination of fruit and Parmegiano, the cheese specialty of the region of Parma! Thanks to our great organizers!
